Grainger’s July sales rise 11 percent

Sales for W.W. Grainger Inc. rose 11 percent in July, including a 1 percent gain on exchange rates due to the strong Canadian dollar.That gain was offset by a 1 percent drop in sales of seasonal items, the Lake Forest, Ill.-based broad-line MRO distributor said in a statement.
And the acquisition of Highsmith Inc. by Grainger’s Lab Safety Supply subsidiary also added 1 percent in sales. In Canada, the Acklands-Grainger division posted a 17 percent jump in revenues; Grainger’s branch based segment and lab Safety Supply each posted a 10 percent rise in sales for the month.
Grainger ranked fourth on INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION’s 2008 Big 50 list of distributors, with 2008 sales of $6.4 billion.
