Great Northern Lumber buys Service Lumber Co.

Building materials distributor Great Northern Lumber Inc. of Chicago acquired Service Lumber Co. for an undisclosed amount.

Service Lumber, which has three locations in Madisonville, Ky., Whiting, Ind., and Youngstown, Ohio, distributes hardwood lumber products. Former vice president Jack Frampton will serve as a consultant to Great Northern and several other former Service Lumber employees will join the company.

“We look forward to this move and see it as a great opportunity to expand in the industrial market with softwood and remanufacturing capacity,” Frampton said.

“We are looking forward to new opportunities to grow in the industrial hardwood market from SLC's previous successes," Great Northern president Jeff Currier said.
